childs Bicycle trailer

I have a bike trailer for my 19 month old son, (http://www.chariotcarriers.com/en/US/Pr ... X-2-Copper) and would like to add a few features:

rear lights - I'm thinking amber EL wire around both sides, and red encircling the rear frame
Buttons to keep him entertained - A few buttons to play different noises, Dixie, police/ambulance/fire truck sirens, and KITT's strobe noise. Perhaps a few others?

Ideally I'd like to add some white front lights, but not so bright as to blind me when I look back to make sure he is still there, so perhaps white EL tape again.

Extra options could include a G sensor to make brake lights come on when I slow down, and perhaps a speed display on the inside so he can tell me off when i'm going too slow. If I did this I'd rather implement using GPS, and have the routes logged than fit a wheel sensor and calibrate it.
I'd also be interested in adding spokePOV kit, but the wheels might be too small.

The extent of my electronics skill so far is making a TVBgone, so if anyone can suggest how I can go about all of this, and what I'll need I'd be very grateful. if you follow the trailer link you'll understand that I won't have any issues with finding enough space for a fairly hefty battery pack to run everything for the 2-3 hours max I'll be out in any one journey.

All suggestions gratefully received.

My only concern is the EL inverter operates at high voltage so you need to make sure the connections are well insulated. But I haven't worked with those parts so I don't know if that is really an issue.

EL is also not so bright. For better visibility, I'd look into the various led strip options. https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main ... =led+strip

An Arduino UNO and a WaveShield should handle the sounds. https://www.adafruit.com/products/175
We've got a wide variety of pushbuttons in the store too: https://www.adafruit.com/index.php?main ... &q=buttons
