Raspberry Pi - Car JukeBox

Post by Torna »

Hello there,

After my project Pi TimeLapse, whitch is now fully functional, I started a new one called Pi CarJukeBox :)

The objectif is to embbed a jukebox based on the Raspberry Pi in my car :) As always, the power supply is the main problem. I used a DC converter to get 5V for the Pi, starting the and stoping the car result in many problems...

Actualy, starting the car provoques many tension variation whitch are dangerous for the Pi. End, stoping the car provoque a brutal stop for the Pi without a proper system shutdown...

I finaly figured out a way to solve these problems, but I still need recommendations and ideas. Here is the project summary, do not hesitate to contact me for any suggestion :) Many thx with anticipation :)
Next parts will come soon...

you can find a startup/shutdown controller (m2-atx i think) over at mp3car.com it'll allow the pi to survive starting the engine and also give it enough time to log out before cutting power. it's an atx psu so you'll have to ground the green wire (i think) and run that to the 5v input on the pi. do a search on how to convert a computer psu to a bench power supply to see which is the correct wire to ground though.

your project looks interesting. is there a way to display the music selection screen on an external monitor via hdmi?

also. I'm extremely new to computer side of programming (i have only done processing.js stuff) would it be possible to incorporate the mpd player into a processing script so i can play music from withing a processing.js app?
