USB Power Injector

Post by wolfy »

Hi all!

Has anyone thought about building a USB power injector based on the design of the MintyBoost?
By "power injector" I mean a battery powered box that is put between a device with USB host capability and any connected USB device in need of power. The box provides power (either additional or any at all) to the connected device.
This is necessary for devices with USB host mode that do not provide sufficient power on their USB port.

There is a similar project on the web (see http://tabletblog.com/2006/01/usb-power-injector-2.html), but
1) apparently the design could be optimized for much longer battery life (at least I read that somewhere in some forum, can't seem to find that forum/post though...)
2) AA(A) batteries would be preferred
3) there's no kit available.

Cheers

#### EDIT ####
I'm aware that most hubs are capable of this, but I'm talking of a portable solution that can be used with cell phones etc.

Most USB hubs have this facility.
