Charging iphone 6s through camera adapter

Post by aolamit »

I'm not using the mintyboost but posting here because my issue relates to USB charging... admin feel free to move to another forum if more appropriate.

I have a sort of hackish arrangement for getting digital audio out of my iphone 6s plus in the car. The adapter chain is:
1. iphone 6s lighning ->
2. apple camera adapter USB (
http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD821 ... ra-adapter) ->
3. A 5V power injector splitter (http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=5vusb) with the power cable connected to a 5V bench power supply, and USB->
4. A small PC sound card with a digital output for my car audio system.

The problem is that the iphone does not charge, and the sound card drains the batteries fast. Even with just the 5V power injector plugged into the iphone putting 5V on the power pins it won't charge (at least it says it isn't charging and the power supply only draws 90mA). I read the tutorials on the mintyboost which apply particular voltages to the D+ and D- pins. But since I'm using the D pins for the digital communications I can't just pin them to particular voltages.

I'm curious if anyone has suggestions for how to tell the iphone that charging is OK and still allow data transfer on the D pins... something I could work into a custom USB cable.
