Matrix Portal (64 x 32, 4mm pitch) dead 1.5 rows and one half-column stuck in blue

Post by guydav »

Hello,

A while back I purchased (from Digikey, linked from the Adafruit website) a Matrix Portal starter kit, with the 64 x 32 mm Matrix and MatrixPortal. I did some initial programming and set it aside. When I came back to it recently, I noticed that the colors are off -- 1.5 rows are dead, half a column is stuck in blue, and other pixels have their colors off. I don't know what I could have done to cause this or what I could do to fix it -- I tried unplugging and plugging back in, reflashing my code, and changing power sources, but nothing seems to make a difference. I'm attaching pictures below of full red/green/blue, the row stuck in blue as it's booting up, and the back of the board.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Guy

Try the simpletest UF2 downloaded from here (for the 64x32):
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-mat ... /downloads

Double press reset to get BOOT folder
Drag downloaded UF2 to BOOT folder

Do the display issues still appear on the matrix?

Hello,

Unfortunately, the issues persist. See the image below -- dead row in the bottom, dead row in the top (missing pixel in UIT), half-column stuck in blue in the middle, and text that should be white in yellow (upper-left corner can't show blue).

Hmm. Yah, looks like same general issue.

Does reseating the MatrixPortal help at all? Or change things?

Unfortunately not -- I tried to remove and replace it, and the same thing happened. I thought about inserting it into the second 16-pin socket, but it won't fit there with where the 4-pin power connector is in the middle. I also tried different power supplies -- same outcome.

OK, seems most likely something with the RGB matrix. Let's send a replacement.

Send an email to [email protected] with a link to this thread and they can help get you a replacement 64x32 4mm pitch RGB Matrix.
