Sound board not showing up as a location or drive

Post by MRudolph »

Hey there,

I've been using Adafruit Audio FX Sound Board + 2x2W Amp - WAV/OGG Trigger -16MB
Product ID: 2217 for a few months and they've been working great.

I recently ordered six new ones, and when I go to add sound files, they are not showing up as locations or as a drive. I get a single static Green Pwr LED illumiating, although nothing else. Does anyone have advice on this issue?

My old boards still show up properly, and I am interchanging the exact same connection setup.

Is the PC responding at all when the boards are plugged in? Making a "something connected" noise, etc?

That is sounding like it might be a USB cable issue.

Everything here is 100% the same? Same USB cable, USB port, PC, etc? Only difference is the sound board?

Everything is 100% the same when sucessfully connecting to the old boards and failing to connect to these new boards, Same PC, same port, same cable. You are correct, the only difference is the sound board. After a few days I tried different setups, (different cables, and PCs) although I'm still getting the same issue, no recognition of the sound board.

This is happening with all 6 of the recently ordered boards?

If you still have the bags they came in, can you please post a photo of that showing the sticker with a bar code. If they are all the same sticker, just a photo of one is OK. Just want the info off that sticker.

Also - a photo of one of the sound boards just so we can check for any obvious hardware issue.

Yes, this is happening with all six boards.

I unfortunately do not have the pink bags, although I can provide the order # if that is helpful.

I've added photos of two o the soundboards, I can provide more if necessary, although they all have the same setup.

Are all the Sound Boards connected to that PCB? Can it be removed?

They are currently connected, although I have been having issues since before they were connected. Do you have any idea of why they are not registering? Have other soundboards had this issue?

These sometimes have misc issue. But not showing up at all, and getting zero response from the PC, is not expected. That would indicate either a USB connection issue or something else (unknown at this point) wrong with the board.

Do you have any of the boards showing this issue that are not connected to the custom hardware?

Do you have a multimeter?

Yes, as I mentioned, they showed this issue when not connected to the hardware. They were connected because we thought that might fix the problem, but it has not.

I have a multimeter and they are receiving power, the green LED even illuminates on the board, but they are not being recognized as a location/drive.

As we discussed, I've used every USB combination possible, including connecting the old working boards with the EXACT SAME connection, port, interface, everything, and the boards are not responding. In addition I've tried a new PC, new port, new USB, new adaptor, new power supply, and none of it works.

I removed one from the hardware, and it's still having the same issue. The green LED shows up, but nothing as a location or drive.

OK, let's try replacements. Not sure what's happening, but seems like something with those boards. Test the replacements separate from the custom PCB when they arrive. Just make sure they have basic functionality out of the box. If not, respond back to this thread and will continue with those.

Send an email to [email protected] with a link to this thread and your original order number and they can send you six (6) replacement sound boards.
