Return Item - dead out of the box

Post by mistywaters »

I just received my order of
NTSC/PAL (television) TFT Display – 2.5”
and it was dead out of the box.
I’d like to return it for a replacement of the same item.

Invoice no. 1095069
order date: May 2, 2016

Please advise.
Thanks

How did you test this display and what are the symptoms?

Well.... attached a power supply, of proper voltage and connected a composite video signal.
and nothing. Checked the power supply to make sure it was working, then checked the video signal, it was working, and nothing on the 2.5" display.
So the only conclusion is, the unit is dead.

I ordered An Adafruit TFT 4"3 display screen from Kubii (Kubii as I understand is a french distributor/reseller of Adafruit products).
The order was received on 10/4/2016 and I received the package about a week later which is fine.
However the TFT screen, after having applying a 12VDC (+ on inner connector) voltage remained off, no menu was displayed.
I made the tests with applying both the composite output from an Apple //e and from a R-Pi 3 (using an AV cable from Pimoroni) and I did not manage to get any display on the TFT screen. I checked the 12VDC power adaptor and the measured voltage was 11.42V.
Here are the tests I performed using the R-Pi (3):
SD card initialized with NOOBS within the miniSD slot;
Red TFT cable connected to 12VDC output( + on the inner pin and ground on the external contact).
Composite AV/cable yellow connector connected to the yellow TFT input connector
HDMI cable connected to an HDMI connector to see what happens during the mode changes.
Stating up the R-Pi while holding the Shift key down until the green LED stop blinking.
From then on, sucessive keyrtoke on keys 1, 2, 3 or 4 (1 and 2 for forcing output to HDMI and 3 and 4 to composite ouput (NTSC and PAL respectively).
As the output mode is set to "3" or "4", however, the TFT does'nt show any display, nor menu. remains black while powered.
The customer service from Kubii advised me to ask for help within the Adafruit forums. That's why I am posting this message.
I see that there is a tutorial for this kind of device to be connected to the R-Pi, I will test it one back at home tomorrow morning but anyway, I welcome any advice for investigating what might be wrong with my tests or the device itself.
Thank your for any info on this,
Regards,
Benoît Gilon

Some news after having performed a test this time with a R-Pi 1 model B.
Followed the Adafruit Tutorial from https://learn.adafruit.com/using-a-mini ... spberry-pi
but all I got was same results, no display at all.. on display screen.
By the way, I cannot post a new topic on the administrative forum that's why I posted my message here where the original buyer seemed to meet the same issue with his NTSC/PAL composite driven TFT.

I have used a 2 volt power supply a 2.5 and 3
Can you post a picture of the power supply? 2 to 3 volts makes no sense, you need to tell me the volts and amps of a specific power supply not ranges. Post a picture please.
