To add to my prior post, when i look at what windows explorer sees on the GEMMA M0 device, I see a folder called GEMMABOOT with a file called INFO_UF2.txt, with the contents:
UF2 Bootloader v2.0.0-adafruit.0-3-gc91ce29 SFHWRO
Model: Gemma M0
Board-ID: SAMD21E18A-Gemma-v0
avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0xc9f)

Re: avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0x
I deleted and uninstalled all drivers related to what was been installed per:
https://superuser.com/questions/597370/ ... riverstore
Then, I right clicked "\adafruit_drivers\Drivers\USBtinyISP\USBtiny.inf", and chose install. Then, I used device manager, to Add Legacy Hardware, and pointed the driver to the Adafruit USBTinyISP folder. Now, my gemma shows up with the correct name, but I still get the same error in avrdude / arduino IDE avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0xc9f)
Thought I was on cusp of breakthrough!

I do not see an option for Gemma M0 under boards - am I missing something? Thank you

Look further down the list to the Adafruit SAMD Boards section.

@franklin97355
After installing Arduino SAMD boards, as well as Adafruit SAMD boards, I hit upload, and then after it compiled I double tapped the reset button to get into bootloader mode, the upload finally worked.
When the Arduino SAMD boards are not installed, you get a Java error saying bossac could not be found.
But thank you very much for the help, with these changes the code uploaded and is finally working.

Re: avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0x
After trying everything suggested, this is what ended up working for me. Thank you so much!stephenhow wrote:I ran into this problem, where I got the "Could not find USBTiny device (0x1781/0xC9f)" message. Of course, it was my fault. I got the Blink example to load correctly through the FTDI Friend on my Mac OS X Yosemite running the Arduino 1.6.5 IDE by following https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing- ... using-ftdi
(I installed the FTDI VCP drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm)
selected Tools>Board>Pro Trinket (FDTI) [note: select the FTDI and not the USB version]
selected Tools>Port>"/dev/cu.usbserial-AH0331XQ"
selected Tools>Programmer>USBtinyISP
But, I noticed I have to power cycle the Trinket before each upload.

Re: avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0x
Also having the same issue. Having an issue that board is identified correctly, programmer is USBtinyISP and have the same under device manager. However despite hitting the reset to load a sketch (via USB) keep getting the following error:
Arduino: 1.8.6 (Windows 10), Board: "Pro Trinket 5V/16MHz (USB)"
Build options changed, rebuilding all
Sketch uses 942 bytes (3%) of program storage space. Maximum is 28672 bytes.
Global variables use 9 bytes of dynamic memory.
avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0xc9f)
avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0xc9f)
Tried all the obvious, uninstall and reinstall drivers. Swap cables in case they are power only and not data. Even tired different machine and through a hub. So before I get an FTDI cable and try that route instead anyone have any suggestions?

Re: avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x1781/0x
I had the same question and scavenged the web for a solution, I inadvertently stumbled upon the answer. Drivers, at first I did a general search for usbtinyisp drivers and found adafruits website. But the page it takes you to does not have a link to the correct drivers. I managed to find this page by manually typing in the address. Hope it helps! (also make sure and completely uninstall the USBtinyISP from device manager including any drivers you might have previously had installed.)
https://learn.adafruit.com/usbtinyisp/drivers once downloaded a list of boards will come up, look to the far right of each option and you should see in parenthesis TINYusbISP make sure that one is checked as well as FEATHER WICED.
