Encoder compatible with BeagleBone Blue?

Post by ygramoel »

The BeagleBone Blue has 4 JST connectors for quadrature encoders. These connectors each have 4 pins: A, B, 3.3V and GND.

I am looking for a wheel encoder - to be mounted for example on the axis - with at least 64 pulses per turn - that is compatible with these inputs.

I cannot find anything suitable on the Adafruit website, and encoders like
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10932 require 5V or more.

Any suggestions for compatible encoders?

How about this rotary encoder?

I think this JST cable may plug into the Blue but I have not verified:

The suggested encoder https://www.adafruit.com/product/377 is really a rotary knob, similar to a potentiometer, for thing like volume control or other settings. I am actually looking for an encoder to mounted on an axis driven by a DC motor, that will rotate much more than a typical knob and should have less friction (no "clicky feeling").

The suggested JST cable https://www.adafruit.com/product/3955 has a JST-PH connector with 2mm pitch, while the BeagleBone Blue uses JST-SH with 1mm pitch. This will not fit.

So sorry, no solution yet.
