I purchased a FONA 3G American w/out SIM card, and Ting happily sent me a SIM to use with it. However, when trying to register my FONA with Ting (entering my FONA's International Mobile Equipment Identity number), nothing happened. A quick call with Ting revealed that my FONA has an International Mobile Equipment Identity number that's currently in use by Ting with a different account. Not a dead account, but an active account currently in use. They recommend that I return this board and get a new one.
I'm curious how this could happen, since the FONA board I ordered was brand new. No headers soldered on. I even took a photo of the SIMCom sticker on it so I could see all digits clearly and not get the number wrong. I doubt there's anything shady going on -- this is Adafruit after all, one of the best outfits in the Maker community :) Just curious if this has happened before.
Adafruit: please advise on next steps. I'm excited to get my project going!
