Defective SS-02?

Post by foobarney »

I just got an SS-02 solder sucker that may be defective.

It won't always depress all the way--I usually have to rotate the plunger to make it go all the way down. It looks like there's a pin that runs down the center that isn't quite lining up with the hole in the tip that it has to go through.

Is there an easy fix to this that I'm missing, or am I going to have to return the thing?

The wire is a design "feature" that pushes the solder away from the tube. You might try to undo the plunger and straighten it out but it is designed to fit rather tight in the bore and could be readily misaligned,

these things are very 'modular' - they're supposed to be taken apart to clean.
you can try unscrewing it and seeing if you can realign it, maybe it got out of sync during shipping!

I've tried reassembling it over and over. It's close--you can usually depress the plunger if you twist it a little to get the right spot, but isn't lined up well enough to be able to just push it.

I took it apart again and it seemed like the pin was a bit off-center. A gentle push or two and it seems to be working just fine.

Thanks!!
