Premium Digital Stainless Steel Calipers PID: 1724

Post by matt_carvette »

I just received my calipers. The instruction manual is in Chinese. The calipers are pretty self explanatory, but I'm not sure what the thumb screw is on the top. Can you clarify? Also, is there an English user manual that I can download?

That locks the slide.

There are a couple of reasons to do that:

1 - When you measure something rectangular, it's important to keep the caliper jaws flat against the surface. If you tilt them, they'll spread apart and spoil the measurement. Typical practice is to hold the jaws square to the surface with one hand, clamp the slide with the other, then pull the caliper away from the workpiece to read it.

2 - A common use for calipers is to transfer measurements. You measure a reference piece directly or set the jaws to a given distance with the readout, then carry that measurement to something else. One really common use is to scribe a line parallel to the edge of a workpiece. Locking the slide keeps the distance between the jaws constant.

We don't know of anything, but the calipers don't have any unique features compared to other versions. Pretty much any manual will have the same information:
