different vendor LPD8806 strips not compatible?

Post by ZapBranigan »

Hi, a few years ago I made an awesome LED project for my bike using an Arduino Uno and some LPD8806 LEDs. I'd like to add some more LED's, and ordered a new LPD8806 strip, but the new strip does not appear to be compatible with the old one. I've done basic troubleshooting, checked the input direction, checked clock and data for transposition. No luck.
At this point I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue.
I've attached a photo. The copper strip is the old one that works. The white strip is the new one that does not. Any assistance is most welcome.

Hmm.. LPD8806 strips used clocked data so they should be mostly immune to timing problems.

Does the new strip work on its own?

No, the new strip does not work when plugged directly into my Arduino.

Let's double-check the hardware. Post a photo showing your hardware and connections and we'll take a look. 800x600 images usually work best.
