AS7262 Instability on some unmarked sensors

Post by hitequila »

Dear tech support and community
I just wanted to raise an issue we have seen with some of these sensors. We have used them in one application where we monitor the stability of the sensor readings.
Recently we have identified some sensors which have reading stability issues outside the normal range we are used to. After close investigation it was discovered the sensors themselves did not have any markings on them.
Is Adafruit changing suppliers in light of the supply shortages as well and getting these sensors from a different place?
Not all of them show the stability behavior, but the ones that do are all unmarked.
If anyone else has seen this as well, please chime in. Looking forward to a response here.
Thank you.

Can you provide more information on what you mean by reading stability issues?

Are you seeing the same behavior running the example code from the guide?

Hello,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
We have not tried the sample code provided, but we wrote our own which calls the same libraries.
We have no reason to believe it's the code, because replacing the sensor with a 'Marked one' brings the stability back.
A good operating sensors sees variabilities in the +- 100 counts, but a bad sensor can swing 4X as much. Please see attached graphs.
Thanks.

Please verify the same behavior is seen using the example code.

Also, the LED appears to be missing from both boards. Was it removed for some reason?

Hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
We do use the same libraries provided, but don't see how that can make a difference between marked and unmarked sensors.
With regards to the LED, we do remove it since we use the on-board driver to drive our own LED.

Can you recreate the behavior with unmodified boards?
