Unable to program Mega 2560 with Music Maker Shield Installed

Post by Torandir »

Having a bit of an issue with a new music maker shield. When put in place on a mega 2560, the program uploader times out. I can upload the program with the shield off, then put on the shield. When running the simple player sketch for the music maker shield, it will detect the VS1053 chip, but the SD fails to be found. If i run the standard SD test sketch from the examples, it also fails to detect an SD card. Have tried both an original Mega 2560 as well as a somewhat enhanced one, neither seem to behave. I've also tried a couple of different SD cards, and none of those seemed to work either. Photos are too large, so i'll share them via link:

The photos aren't close/clear enough to tell for sure, but some of the soldering looks a bit off. I would start by reflowing all the header soldering on the shield. That's always my first act if something should work but doesn't. See https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-gui ... -soldering and https://learn.adafruit.com/collins-lab-soldering for tips.
