Could this new product (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5639 Adafruit High Power Infrared LED Emitter -Product ID: 5639) be connected to the TV-B-Gone in some way to increase range?

you could, but it wouldn't necessarily increase the range: the LEDs are the same brightness on the TV-B-G as the breakout so its more like "you could now DIY a TVBG with an every day microcontroller" than upgrade
