5v tolerant MCU for use with YM2413 FM sound chip

Post by distropolis »

I'm looking for a way to interface the Yamaha YM2413 sound chip with a micro controller (preferably one with USB-C like the QTPY), but the YM2413 runs 5v signals. I know there is a variant of the Pro Micro with USB-C but I'm not sure it will have enough oommph to do what I need to do.

How can I interface 5v logic with 3.3v micro controllers? Are there any microcontrollers that are 5v tolerant and have USB C?

You'll probably need to use some level shifters as modern/powerful MCUs tend to be 3.3v. Something like https://www.adafruit.com/product/1875.
