Can someone please tell me if it is normal for the Qt-Py ESP32-S3 hardware to run extremely hot when plugged into a standard USB 5v connection?
All of my Qt-Py ESP32-xx run hot enough to burn fingers whether running a program or not.
Is there a cable availble that drops the 5v to 3.3v?
Lady Ada any New,new,newnewnew cables?

It shouldn't get that hot.
What voltage do you see between the 3V and GND pins?

Re: ESP32-S3 hardware temperature when running
I measure 3.298v at the 3V pad
I get 4.98v at the 5V pad
I have 3 of the QT PY ESP32-S3 and 2 of the QT PY ESP32-C3 and they all get really hot in just 30-60 seconds.
I'm using standard USB plugs on a laptop so I don't understand why they get so hot.
Is there anything more I can check?

Post a photo showing your hardware and connections and we'll take a look. 800x600 images usually work best.

Re: ESP32-S3 hardware temperature when running
I am disappointed there is no one who is able to help with this issue.
Am I the only one who has these Qt Py ESP32 boards that get so hot?
This picture is from putting the board on top of the BME280 board to get the air temperature of the Qt Py board while it is running.

Sorry for the delay.
105F isn't an unusually high temperature for an ESP32. They're rated to operate up to 85C (185F), so 105F is well within the ESP32's safe operating range.

Thank you for the response.
I get really worried when it is so hot to the touch. Is there any way to get it more safe to handle?
I added the LiPo Charger (5397) thinking the battery would keep it from getting so hot but it only gets slightly cooler plus the mounting covers up the processor so less air can get across it.
I like these things but they are sure "little hot" boards. :D

There's no way to change the power consumption or dissipation, but you can use an enclosure to keep your fingers clear of the chip itself.
A small pouch made from a folded piece of felt would work.
