There is a problem in the Pinouts section of the pygamer document: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pygamer/pinouts
It starts to talk about the accelerometer but then describes the light sensor which it already covered. It never gets around to say how to talk to the accelerometer.
This happens on page 21 of the PDF version, also.
I went to the examples from the circuitpython bundle to see how to use the LIS3DH.

The LIS3DH is one of our more popular accelerometers. We started with a breakout version, then added it to some of the dev boards where we wanted a built-in sensor package.
