Feather shield 12V PWM possible?

Post by christofeugster »

Hi guys

Maybe somebody already tried this.
Can i run 4x 12V PC Fans (4pin PWM) over the Feather DC Motor Shield (max 6V)
but with extern 12V Power Supply?
Any advice or maybe a sheme of a working solution?

Thanks a lot

PC fans typically expect a PWM frequency of 25KHz. The maximum frequency of the motor shield is 1.6KHz.

We do have a fan controller breakout here: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4808

Thanks for this little but important detail.
- Can i connect 4 PWM Fans simultaneously on one breakout board you mention?
(All Fans have to spin the same RPM.)
- Or, can i connect 4x 4808 Breakout board to one Feather with 4 different I2c adress?
Thanks again
Chris

You can probably connect the PWM output to multiple fans, but you can only have tach feedback (for 4-wire fans) from one fan.

The device has a fixed i2c address. To connect multiples to a single Feather, you would need to use an i2c multiplexer. https://www.adafruit.com/product/2717
