Hello, I am attempting to learn how to use this Feather HUZZAH with ESP8266.
First thing; check the attached pictures, does this board look alright to you? I ordered this in October, with pins installed, confirmation No: 2934928-4518078038 and I recently unwrapped it and this is how it looks.
I decided to ignore the appearance and see if it works. When I purchased this, I was unaware that: "The Huzzah does not have native USB so you don't get the nice "USB drive with source code on it". Yikes, OK so I don't really know how to flash the programs onto this thing yet, so I went to your tutorial: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-fea ... odemcu-lua
I got the SiLabs CP2104 Driver installed, I open Putty on my windows machine, and I think I am connected on COM4... I press the boards reset button and I get a welcome message, however the top line is not exactly like the one in the tutorial, and then I have no keystrokes, the keyboard has no response in the terminal. I've tried different usb ports, cables, and baud rates but I am just stuck here.
Might you know what I'm doing wrong? Or do you think this is related to the condition of this board?
Thanks for your help,
Karl

Re: Questionable Huzzah ESP8266
The soldering here does look a bit suspect. It's hard to tell from the photo if the stuff between the pins is solder or just light glare. Specifically, here:
In terms of the Lua install - it looks OK. The first line being different is OK. If it's not responding, double check Putty settings.

Is that solder? Or is it just reflections from leftover flux residue? In terms of the Lua install - it looks OK. The first line being different is OK. If it's not responding, double check Putty settings.

Re: Questionable Huzzah ESP8266
Ah thank you! It was Putty settings... I missed setting "Flow control" to None.
There is definitely a white residue buildup across the top of the pins but from what I can tell it does not appear to be solder... I tried to grab another picture from our microscope cam, sorry its not great.
Anyway, I've got my keystrokes back and my "hello world" was successful. Now, at least I can continue the tutorial and figure out if this board will give me anymore trouble.
Thank you!

Agree. Thanks for the additional photo. That doesn't look like solder. In general, it looks fine. If you want, can try cleaning off that residue with some rubbing alcohol. There is definitely a white residue buildup across the top of the pins but from what I can tell it does not appear to be solder
