Grand Central Maximum Power 12 volts? Vehicle power

Post by RobotMachines »

I'd like to supply voltage to the Grand Central from my vehicles 12 volt system. The problem is that the charging system of the car can reach 14 volts at times. Can the GC's USB protection/barrel jack regulator handle the extra volts?

It is rated for up to 12v. But even at 12v, the on-board regulator will be running pretty warm.

I'd recommend finding a 6v buck converter designed for automotive use and power the Grand Central from that. It will have the further benefit of providing some isolation against the electrical noise that plagues most automotive electrical systems.
