USB power with PoE+ Hat

Post by nmaludy »

Hello,

I recently purchased a few PoE+ hats (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5058) for the Raspberry Pi. They work just fine when plugging in to a PoE switch.

However, if i try to power them with the standard USB-C cable, it makes a terrible crackling noise. In this configuration i unplugged everything from the Pi, except the USB-C cable. I tried this on 2x Pi's both with PoE+ hats, just to rule out various factors.

Any ideas here? Is it supported to power off USB-C when the PoE+ hat is installed? Is it supposed to make that terrible crackling sound?

Thanks,
Nick

No. The RasPi doesn't have hardware for power source selection. If you want to use PoE, only use PoE.
