EdgeBadge: Won't USB, fast blink red LED

Hey Team,

We've been enjoying the EdgeBadge over the holidays. During one play session, it powered down, and now it doesn't seem to function correctly.

The CHG light blinks orange as normal
The D13 light fast blinks red at all times, which is new, I think.

Clicking reset, or double clicking reset will change the D8 LED colors on the front with each press, but does not enable USB mass storage for uploading the program.

I read through the troubleshooting guide for the similar pyBadge, but it seems they all assume you can still get to the USB mass storage upload feature, which I cannot.

Help or suggestions would be most appreciated. FWIW: Back of board photo attached.

Are you using the same USB cable / USB port you had when connecting the device before and seeing the drive mount up?

What OS are you running?

We’ve tried the normal cable we’ve been using as well as new ones that work with power+data on other devices.

We’ve tried to upload from win11, and macOS.

Okay, glad that we can rule out cable issues and you have two different machines to test with. Stay off the MacOS machine especially if it is running v10.14.4+ as that has problems mounting fake USB devices.

Do you see the presence of a USB connection in Windows Device Manger?

If you can see the USB connection there are two things you can try:

1) If you can see the USB device you can upload the bootloader via bin file using bossac.

Nothing in device manager, we expanded all sections, compared before and after plugging the board in, no change.

If you were running CircuitPython 7.x or later the red blinks mean the code ended in an exception.

2 RED blinks: Code ended due to an exception. Check the serial console for details.

If the bootloader will not come up as a serial device then the only way to restore this is with a JTAG programmer. We can replace this EdgeBadge for you if you started this forum thread within a month of purchase. Otherwise this is the head you can attach a jtag connector to.
