I just feel I should post a follow-up, since I indicated in the previous thread that I had skepticism about dotstars and/or adafruit products in general. This was totally unwarranted, it was all my fault. I can now happily report that I've purchased 5 meters worth of dotstars (300), and there have been zero failures. They work great, they look great, and there's no trouble at all with any slowness. In fact, I have seen no reliability problems driving them at the fastest possible AVR rate, 10Mbps from a 20MHz ATmega328P. Nice product, adafruit, it presents these RGB LEDs in a very-usable format.
