Any way to turn the LED off on the VL53L4CX?

Post by actual_mattdm »

I have the VL53L4CX and an ESP32 acting as a presence sensor at my desk (because PIR-based motion sensors kept turning the light off on me.) Works great, but ... the green LED is so bright!

I could break it, or tape over it, or something, but ideally I'd like to turn it off but blink it on briefly when there is a significant change in measured distance. Is this possible?

Thank you!

Assuming you have https://www.adafruit.com/product/5425 there is a jumper labeled LED on the underside of the board. Cut the trace between the two pads to disconnect the power LED.

Thanks Dave! Assuming I am entirely a software person and frightened of physical hardware... I just use some sharp thing to scrape away the little connection? (And then presumably I could wire something to those pads to connect them again to re-enable?)

Corrst, and correct. Just carefully cut/scrape the thin bit of copper between those 2 pads.
