Feather TFT ESP32-S2 fried on battery connect

Post by rconthenet »

Hello, I have a Feather TFT that I just fried by connecting a wrong size lipo battery.
My PC said USB disconnected and I smelled something burning. I quickly unplugged the battery but it was too late. Now the Feather won't work on USB except for the CHG light being on. The PC won't see it if I unplug and replug the USB cable. No visible damage on the chips, just smells a little burnt.

Any chance of reviving this board via soldering iron? At least for USB use?

Thanks

What LiPo did you connect? What do you mean by "wrong size"? Can you post a picture of the battery and the connector?

Not working and smells burnt? There's usually no coming back from that sort of damage.

I soldered an adapter cable for some RC batteries I have on my desk but reached for the 11.1 Volt battery instead of the 3.7 Volt one. Guess I was too excited to try all the features of my new board.

Is there a way to bypass the battery circuit and salvage the board to run on USB only?

Thanks

Power from USB bypasses the charger anyway, just supplying it with power. If USB won't power the board there is something keeping the board from running.
