Dashboard Size (MD vs LG) During Setup

Post by jamieback »

Hello,
Each of my high school students created a free Adafruit IO account and connected a QT PY ESP32-S2 device with a AHT-20 temp/humidity sensor. Each student is creating a dashboard to display the temp & humidity data and is sharing their dashboard. Many students included both gauges and graphs on their dashboard. They are all working in the Edge browser on a Microsoft Surface Pro device.

The dashboard for some students -- particularly those who displayed gauges and graphs side-by-side -- seems to be defaulting to MD size during setup. There is not an option to change this to LG size. When sharing the dashboard, the gauges and graphs show vertically instead of horizontally when opened in Edge on a Surface Pro.

This picture shows a student dashboard as they configured it (below the pic is the MD icon, which we cannot change to "LG" during setup).

This picture shows the same dashboard when opening via the share link on a Surface Pro tablet in Edge.

Most students see "LG" when configuring their dashboard. It's just a handful of students who see "MD." Is there a browser setting that might be affecting this?

Thank you!

This feature is a little confusing and something we want to clarify in the user experience.

For each size, you can set the layout. So for MD you can set how it looks, and same for LG. The sizes chosen during the display of the dashboard are automatically determined based on the width of the screen.

You can shrink the browser width to SM/MD/LG and save the layout for each size, then on the tablet it should look nice again.

Thank you, that helps.

Here's what is strange: for the students whose dashboard size is defaulting to MD, the Edge browser is at full-size when they are editing layout. We can't make the browser any larger (width-wise) to get the dashboard layout to show us LG.

Here's what DID work: a student logged into the dashboard in Chrome. When they selected "edit layout," the dashboard showed LG size. They rearranged and saved the layout so there was a LG format saved. When they login to the dashboard in Edge to edit layout, the dashboard size only still only offered MD. But, since there is both a LG format (created in Chrome) and MD format (created in Edge) saved, the shared dashboard shows up with the correct formatting on the computer.

So at least we have a workaround.
