Regulating power to 3860 LED strips

Post by MV10 »

Do the "neon" LED strips such as the 3860 need to have the current limited?

You do not need to limit the current. Just meet the power specs and it is ideal to have a power supply with higher current rating than requried.

Code: Select all

Technical Details

    Operating Voltage: DC 12V
Current draw: 0.8A per meter at 12V
    LED: SMD2835
LED Quantity per Meter: 120 pcs
    Waterproof Rating: IP65
    Weight: 71g (+/-5)

Product Dimensions: 1,000.0mm x 12.2mm x 5.0mm / 39.4" x 0.5" x 0.2"

Product Weight: 70.0g / 2.5oz
What were you using for the power supply with your setup?

You are fine for current, but you will need to watch voltage.

These strips are designed for 9v - 12v. Your Jeep is probably going to run well over that. Car automotive batteries can go up to 15v when driving. A 12v regulator would be a good idea to keep the voltage stable.
