adafruit esp32 s3 tft reverse feather mounting holes

Post by jimk123 »

I am try to use #2 (0.09 diameter) screws to mount this board on nylon stand offs and the hole diameters are different on one end. This was the only doc I could find but it says they are supposed to be .1" in diameter at each corner.

https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-fea ... cification

However the holes right next to the wifi antenna are smaller than .1" ? I was wondering if I drill them slight larger if it will ruin the antenna ? It appears to be a very thin PCB under the antenna but the wire seem very close to the edges.

thanks

I see what you mean. I have the normal (not reversed) ESP32-S3 Feather TFT module and the screw size differences are also there. 85 mil versus 100 mil.

You could size down to M2 sized screws for the smaller holes instead of M2.5.

If you must increase the drill with it might be best done manually as you are looking for 15 mil diameter increase. I sometimes use V shaped carving bits and slowly twist to avoid damaging any surrounding components (like the antenna in this case).

I ended up using a 3/32 drill bit to slightly enlarge the two holes that were slightly smaller
