Wave shield not turning on when plugged into UNO

Post by Bryang93 »

Hello,

I am pretty new to doing this sort of thing. Just finished soldering everything together on my Wave shield. Put it on an UNO card and plugged it in. Nothing happened. Took the cards apart and plugged just the UNO in and the red LEDs came on. Decided to take a chance and put the Wave shield back on the UNO (while plugged in) and the LEDs turned of on the UNO. Possibly a short somewhere? I have pictures of the board. Please help.

I don't see any glaringly obvious shorts, but I do see several solder joints that look suspect. Dull ball-like solder indicates a possible poor connection. All of the copper pads on the board should ideally be covered. You want them to look like shiny tents. See https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-gui ... -soldering and https://learn.adafruit.com/collins-lab-soldering for tips.

I'd start by revisiting the soldering, carefully checking for shorts as you go.

Also, try to avoid connecting/disconnecting things while powered.

Looks like the op-amp chip is installed backwards. The dot on top indicates the pin 1 position and that should be at the end where the silkscreen shows a notch in the outline. See the image below:

Ok so I tried to un-solder the chip and in the process... it broke off. I purchased a new kit and just finished soldering it all together. A little better luck this time around. When plugging the uno in this time all the lights stay on. I am upload to upload code to the board and the leds flicker like normal. Now my issue is that the SD card is not found. I receive the code SD I/O error: 1, 0. I have rechecked my solder points and to me it all looks good. Maybe I missed something again. I formatted the SD card multiple times too. I attached pictures of the boards

Try running the CardInfo test sketch from the SD library & post the results here.
