I have a 4x AA battery pack that is sold by Adafruit, and I am using it to try to power one of these https://www.adafruit.com/product/445#technical-details
I know the pack works and is wired correctly as it powers a test fan I have. I tried plugging it into the EL strip, nothing. Tried both ends as well, but tried the "input" end first. I am missing something?

EL items require more than just basic direct power. Than need a special power driver inverter, like this:

It looks just like a basic battery pack, but there is additional driver circuitry inside specific for use with EL.

Also, would there be a better option if I am wanting to run 12 x 3' segments of EL tape and would like to have them plug into a standard US power outlet?
