Circuit Playground Classics---dying again

Post by shop4mondon »

Howdy
Here we go again...

We are having the same problem that we had last year. That problem was never solved.

We are using the Circuit Playground Classic devices for projects. Occasionally, one of the boards will die. We have not been able to determine why some students experience this issue while a student right next to them does not. They use exactly the same systems.

Uploads will not finish and the device will not show up in the port selector. The device will then fail to function on any computer, Mac or Windows, ever again. We have tried all of the usual trouble-shooting. Last year we went through over 80 posts on this forum and never solved the issue. I have a box of dead Playgrounds. At $20 each, that is starting to be a big problem.

Students are using Apple Macs running OS Ventura 13.2.1 with Arduino 1.8.19

Can you help ?

FYI I removed your duplicate post. That just creates confusion.

Are the CPs in cases? Something like https://www.adafruit.com/product/3915. My first thought is that static + careless handling is zapping the electronics. Being in a case would help avoid that.

THANX for your attention to our issue...

I would hope that the CP's would be able to withstand normal "handling" by students, but it is possible that they are getting zapped somehow. But, I have personally taken a brand new CP from its package and watched a student try to upload code...and we get the same error...it dies and cannot take code any more

Do you have any suggestions for resurrecting them?

We will not be able to purchase cases at this late point in the school year.

Have a look at https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing- ... round/help. It might have something relevant to your situation.
