Using CANbus with ESP32-S2 and CAN Pal

I'm trying to use the CAN Pal Transceiver (product 5708) with a QT Py ESP32-S2.

The Adafruit CAN Pal Guide says that it's compatible with ESP32/ESP32-S2/ESP32-S3:

However, I've installed the CAN_Adafruit_Fork, and when I try and compile the CANSender example in the Arduino IDE using the QT-Py ESP32-S2 board option, the compilation fails with several errors.
