Need a usb-to-ttl adapter for Windows 11

Post by austinjim »

The usb-to-ttl adapter listed on Adafruit says it only supports up to Windows 10. Does it in fact support Windows 11 or is there another cable or adapter that does?
I currently have a 2303TA cable but I can't find a driver to support it on Win 11.
Thanks!

Hello!
I presume that means that the cable hasn't been tried on Win11. Your device should work on your Win 11 setup, as the system will need to download the requisite drivers for it, from Microsoft, which were supplied by FTDI and tested by Microsoft. I have 10 here, and the same cable the store sells works, in fact the system took a moment to confirm that the drivers who work with the Parallax device were the same and off it worked. Depending on who makes your cable I suggest that you should check your vendor plus that of FTDI to confirm my suggestions.

Just to be sure, this is a question about PID 954?
https://www.adafruit.com/product/954

The product page is more saying "etc." and not "only". It'd really come down to availability of a CP2102 driver for Windows 11, which would come from SiLabs:
https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-t ... cp-drivers

The release notes for the latest driver indicate Windows 11 support:

Partner, if this is the one has it broken into individual leads, then yes it is that style chipset, not the FTDI one. Both the 954 and the 3589 also use that chipset and drivers. I was thinking of an even earlier cable who did use the FTDI ones. Our host from the company is indeed correct.

There's also a good chance the drivers are built in. If you do pick one of these up, try just using it without any driver installs first. It might just work. But if it seems like Windows 11 is looking for or wanting a driver, then you'll want to download and install the VCP drivers from Silabs.
