Current draw from power status LED on ADS1015/ADS1115

Post by reticulatedpython »

The specifications for the 4-channel ADC breakouts (ADS1015 and ADS1115) mentions low current consumption, but it is not clear if that includes or excludes the power status LED light. I cut the LED jumper and measured a current reduction of ~ 0.1 mA (from 0.4 mA to 0.3 mA). Does this sound correct or what is the official current draw from the LED indicator lights on these boards?

There is no 'official' current draw for the power indicator. It varies with the specific LED and on what you are using for VCC. The Vf of the green LED is typically somewhere around 2.2V. So if you are using 3.3v for VCC, there will be something close to a 1.1V drop across the 10K series resistor, giving a current of 0.11mA.

This aligns with my own measurements, thank you!
