Rotary Trinkey Working?

Post by kpalexander »

I received my Rotary Trinkey today and just finished soldering the encoder on. Plugged it into a USB port but it doesn't move anything in any of my apps as hoped. Then I noticed that the little LED on the bottom of the board doesn't change colour when I rotate the encoder. I saw that it does in one of your videos. Is that my clue that something's wrong with it? I've reheated the 5 pin connections a few times so I'm pretty sure they're solid.

Am I supposed to solder the two tabs on the sides of the encoder? I'm afraid of melting the plastic encoder body while I wait for it to heat up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry...my mistake! The LED does change colour as I rotate the encoder. It just does so very slowly. I guess it just won't work with any of my apps...

Allow me to cut to the chase. I was hoping this would behave like the scroll wheel on my mouse and would be delighted if it did. Is there a way to make it do that?
