Protective cases for NEO Rings or LED strips?

Post by coderman1 »

Does anyone make a protective case for the NEO Ring? I plan on placing the NEO Ring at the bottom of a shallow hole where objects will drop in. These objects weigh up to 6oz, so obviously dropping them onto bare circuitry isnt going to work, but if there was a hard plastic clear protector for it that would be good enough

Also if there are durable plastic protectors for LED strips that someone can point me to that would be helpful!

Thanks!

What size ring? Grainger, McMaster Carr and several other suppliers carry polycarbonate discs in stock sizes. Some plastics suppliers will cut them to order in whatever size you want.

I was considering the 1.75" rings, but I was looking at some coin protectors on amazon. They seem to be about 2" and the correct depth to fit a ring. I would just need to drill out a hole to run the wires I guess?

Thank you for the company names, I couldnt find anything on my own!

After looking at Grainger, that appears to just be a disc, not an actual container that I can put the NeoRing in. Is that what you meant?

Most of the coin protectors I have seen are made of styrene plastic. That does not have very good impact resistance.

Polycarbonate is what they use to make 'bulletproof glass'. A polycarbonate disc resting on top of the ring would offer pretty good protection. But if you can find or fabricate some spacer to provides a gap between the disc and the pixels, that would be even better.
