Midi sequencing

Post by Sandyalexander »

Hi, lurked awhile so first post...
All’s well but fancied sequencing the xox externally - tried with a Roland TB3 but the random/pattern variation function on that produces notes that are out of the xox range and the slide/tie is defective. Likewise, using the sequencer on Troublemaker on the iPad produces unpredictable result. So.... can anybody recommend a decent midi sequencer on the iPad that can send patterns to the xox, preferably with a pattern variation function (the TB3, Troublemaker and Pure Acid all have this and would love to just press a button on the iPad to generate variations!)
Cheers :)

... managed to get it all working by using these iOS apps:
Bram Bros Troublemaker (using the sequencer and variation function therein) > Korg Gadget 2 Taipei > Audiobus
with midi in on the xoxbox receiving the midi out from Taipei which in turn was receiving it from Troublemaker.
This gives the ability to produce in key variations from the iPad screen and step length.
The Troiblemaker sound volume turned all the way down so only the xoxbox is heard.
Using a camera connection kit on the iPad, running into a a Novation audiohub, from the Novation a usb to midi converter cable to the Xox.
Well, so far so good. Would still like to find a sequencer to load, copy paste etc patterns to send to the xox as don’t think it’s possible in Gadget (yet) but at the moment quite happy to press a button and get patterns+variations. Need to work on the latency a little bit too. All said, though... cool!

Better -
Troublemaker generates patterns and then these are copied over to a sequencer in Modstep.
The arm and record channel (far left) can be set to record just one loop so that there’s no midi notes glitching if it runs over itself recording the notes.
Slides work by extending the length of the notes
Accents work too.
So far so good - Set the key/scale/pattern length in Troublemaker and generate variations of the pattern, then copy over to the X0x channel.
Modstep works very much like Ableton, triggering clips. Still a few things to work out but so far so good.
