Hardware complete: Ultratroninator 3000

Post by brer_rabbit »

Following on my "work in progress" post, I've got the beast contained in a box. On to programming this thing. Wiring was pretty complex - using a keyboard matrix scanning via a HT16K33 for all the front panel components. But hey, it's done (til something breaks!).

Adafruit hardware:
  • Alphanumeric displays
Rotary encoders (hey Adafruit, where can I get a green knob for the top row?!)
    Toggle switches
    Push button
    Big arcade button
    Navigational joystick
    HT16K33 breakout
I managed to include two 4-way Fender Telecaster selector switches. Full "clunk" when moving between positions. Front panel via Front Panel Express. It was great to get emails from them asking what I'm building. Guess they don't get too many "self destruct" labels on their panels!

Total busy box, indeed! I've got about a half dozen games/apps/things on my short list to program up on it. I've got some ideas for a Hexadecimal-based Space Invaders clone, a Roland TR808/909 emulator, and some other unique things along the way.

I've got a somewhat-complete schematic and other info on github. Also project blog which is more a commentary and most definitely not a how-to. I'd post a link but that's getting flagged as a spam word. It's linked from github.

Including another pic: just got blue & green caps for the selectors, so each row is nearly color coded. Just need a green cap for that top rotary encoder!
