Can FONA 3G send photo?

Post by chongya »

Hello, I'd like to install cameras in remote fields to monitor crops. The device is Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W + Pi camera. I wonder if FONA 3G + Ting SIM card (or other carriers) can send photos? Thanks!

The SIM5320 chip in the FONA 3G does have FTP capability, I've used it to FTP small test files in the past just to try it out, so it would seem one could FTP an image file too. The chip also does TCP/UDP, SMTP, and HTTPS, though I've never tried sending files with any of those.

The 5320 also has a small amount of on-board memory (~20 meg) which is handy, that's where I stored the files that I sent.

Another question to ask though is whether 2G/3G is going to be around for awhile where you're located.
