I'm currently not able to connect to the Bluefruit BLE sniffe. I have followed all instructions to install and setup everything. I have looked at all posts at the forum and internet with no luck as well. When I run the Python Script with command eg. nrf_sniffer_ble.py --extcap-interfaces, I don't see the any BLE sniffer listed.
According to
https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index ... lugin.html there should be listed a com port under interfaces but non are shown.
Tried to install on 3 different windows 10 PC, I have done the following with no success
1. Installed CP210x_VCP_Windows driver and verified that com port port is available - in my case port 3
2. Installed Python v. 3.x and verified that no other versions are running on the pc
3. Installed pyserial and verified that it works.
4. Installed wireshark
5. copied all files in the extcap folder to wireshark extcap folder.
6. The Bluefruit unit is flashing to times then pause I have also tried mode with 3 flashes.
should I set up the Bluefruit in a special mode or upload firmware to it?
Please help

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
The fact it's not showing up as an option when launching Wireshark seems to indicate an issue with setting up the plugin.

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
Thanks for replay
yes I have followed the instruction on 3 different PC's. With latest versions and the versions described in the instruction.
When I look into Wireshark under "about" and under the tab "plugin" the plugin is listed as "nrf_sniffer_ble.bat". But not listed on the main page under "Capture options". When I execute the python nrf_sniffer_ble.py script with the command --extcap-interfaces I cant see interface listed as COM3(current comport) no interfaces are listed, so maybe the script don't see the blue fruit?

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
Let's double check the hardware. Are you using one of these?
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2269
Was this ordered directly from Adafruit or through a reseller?

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
OK, thanks for verifying. And just to recheck and verify, you copied all of these files from the zip into the Wireshark extcap folder?
https://learn.adafruit.com/assets/105804
But when you launch Wireshark, you don't get the expected entry?

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
What version of Wireshark are you using? We can try running through all this again on our end and see if we can recreate the same behavior. Maybe something has changed?

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
Im using wireshark 3.6.6
Python 3.9.13
nRF sniffer version 4.0.0 also tried 4.0.1
CP210x_VCP_Windows driver download v6.7
The wireshark interface toolbar is avalible but no interface Can be selected.
As mentioned earlyer I tried to run the Python script and it does not show any interfaces with the interface command. It seams to stop in the code for some reasion. I have tried debugging the UART Python script and here i’m able to make the code detect the dongle. But Main scripts fails somehow.

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
The sniffer does not response with ATI command, I think you probably having the LE Friend instead of the sniffer one
- LE Friend : https://www.adafruit.com/product/2267
- LE Sniffer: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2269
They have the same hardware but different firmware. The sniffer use special firmware for sniffing. Please double check your order to see if the store ship the wrong one, Or maybe you have both of them and pick the wrong version.

Re: Can't connect to Bluefruit BLE sniffer
you will need an jlink and connect/tap to SWD pad under the board to change the firmware. Since the Friend and Sniffer are not compatible, which sinffer is directly from Nordic. However if you have one of our nrf52840 board, you could use it as sniffer. nRF52840 come with usb and that makes switching firmware without any extra debugger. Here is the learn guide to do so https://learn.adafruit.com/ble-sniffer-with-nrf52840 (note you need to run bootloader at least 0.6.0 first).
