When I connect the Matrix Portal M4 to my ubuntu 20.04 laptop via USB C nothing happens. No lights, nothing.
I've tested on my work computer (windows) with the same USB cable and everything seems to work. The board even lights up if I connect it to my phone.
Are there any resources for troubleshooting in Linux?
Thanks

I don't see anything called ls /dev/ttyACM* either before or after plugging the board in

It would be /dev/ttyACM0 or /dev/ttyACM1, etc.
It should appear when you plug in the board (be sure it's a data cable).

Like I said, there's nothing by that name either before or after I plug it in. I can use this cable to transfer data to/from my phone, so I'm pretty sure it's a data cable.dastels wrote:It would be /dev/ttyACM0 or /dev/ttyACM1, etc.

Can you post clear pictures of what you have hooked up?

It's hooked up correctly. I know this because it works when I connect my work laptop, or my phone.dastels wrote:Can you post clear pictures of what you have hooked up?

Right. OK, back a few posts: did you check/fix the permissions?

Nothing there made a difference. I don't think my connection is even getting that far.dastels wrote:Right. OK, back a few posts: did you check/fix the permissions?

Is the MatrixPortal getting power? When you plug it in the 5v & 3v green LEDS should light.

OK, it sounds like the board isn't getting power. The cable works on other computers so it's good. Does that USB port on the laptop power other devices? I'm suspecting a bad USB port/connection.

Yes, I can charge and transfer files to my phone using the same USB port/cable. I think there's an issue with ubuntu not recognizing/powering the Matrix Portal M4 in particulardastels wrote:OK, it sounds like the board isn't getting power. It does show up when I run lsusb though:
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
I've attached the dmesg output when I plug the device in.
