Hi,
I am trying to understand how the AS7341 works. I have purchased one and am extremely pleased with its accuracy. I am trying to make a similar wearable device using the AS7341 and have been looking into the schematics provided by Adafruit :

My question is regarding the BSS138 component. Is there more information that could be provided like a datasheet? That particular component is out of stock, and I wondered if there is an alternative way of handling this functionality. Thank you!

They are transistors being used for bi-directional level shifting of the I2C lines.
If you don't need to deal with mixed 3V / 5V logic, you do not need that.
