Voice Bonnet on Ubuntu?

Post by Tokolosh »

I have a new Voice Bonnet that I am trying to install on an RPi running Ubuntu.
The installation seems to require Raspberry Pi OS, which doesn't serve my other needs.
I'm wondering why.
Help or pointers to get this onto Ubuntu would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Others have been successful getting the Voice Bonnet going with Ubuntu. This link is frequently cited for step-by-step instructions.

Adafruit focuses its resources on supporting Pi OS. Between the OS updates, new releases and different builds (lite / desktop / 32 vs 64-bit) the Pi based projects need to be regularly updated.

Many thanks for this.
Do you have any pointers to others who have this going with Ubuntu?
The link you cite seems to require Raspbian, and I get an error:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
aiy-voicebonnet-soundcard-dkms : Depends: raspberrypi-kernel-headers but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

That is too bad about the kernel header dependency.

Where do you get stuck during the installation process on a Pi based Ubuntu?

In the Adafruit instructions, this throws an error -- it requires Pi-OS:

Code: Select all

sudo python3 raspi-blinka.py
In these directions,
https://github.com/google/aiyprojects-r ... HACKING.md

this driver installation throws an error:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install -y aiy-voicebonnet-soundcard-dkms
Thanks for your help!

Take a look at these. A number of Ubuntu users have been able to get the modules to load, only to have crashes and quality issues. It looks like Pi OS 32-bit is the only path at this time.

Ok. Thanks.
I’ll figure out another way to do what I have to without this bonnet.
