I'm having trouble connecting to the Metro M4 Express. I was able to connect to this board and run simple programs about a month ago but am no longer able to connect at all.
Status
Board is not recognized by computer (mac).
Board used to be recognized by the same computer, using the same cable.
Board does not show up in the Arduino app under Tools -> Port.
Board does not show up in Disk Utility application.
Green light on board turns on when connected to computer.
Red light on board turns on when I press the reset button.
Troubleshooting Efforts
Tried connecting a raspberry pico to my computer using the same cable and it was able to successfully connect.
Tried using a different cable. This other cable worked for my raspberry pico as well but not for the Metro M4 express.
Tried restarting my computer and the Arduino app.
Reinstalled the FTDI driver and restarted my computer.
Are you able to access the bootloader when plugging the board into your computer with one of your known good USB cables and double clicking the reset button? If the above gives you a mounted BOOT drive or a device that appears in the Arduino IDE go ahead and upload your arduino code.
Thanks, that worked for me. Do you know why I need to double click the reset button when plugging the board in now? I am pretty sure I didn't need to do that before. Thanks for the help!
The M4 has native USB/serial support so you need to switch to bootloader to upload code. Some boards have dedicated USB/serial chips and typically do not need a reset to upload.
