Hello,
Just received my Right Angle (R bend) Mini HDMI Plug and HDMI 10 cm ribbon cable. This is to connect a raspberry pi zero to 7 inch screen (eviciv). Before getting the above parts I was using an adaptor to HDMI and wanted a cleaner look.
After connecting the ribbon to the HDMI R ben plug and click port on 7 inch screen, when connect power to the screen, no lights come on and the ribbon gets extremely hot. I've quickly unplugged as I don't want to short or damage anything. I can figure out what's going on as I've ensure the ribbon is hooked up correctly. I've tried my previous setup and that still seems to work. I'm at a loss as to why this ribbon appears to be getting extremely hot and nothing is coming on. Any ideas? Thanks.

A heating cable has me thinking short. Have you verify that you have the right cable and that it's inserted correctly?

I'm fairly sure that I have the right parts. Here's the list:
-DIY HDMI Cable Parts - Right Angle (R bend) Mini HDMI Plug PID: 3553
-DIY USB or HDMI Cable Parts - 10 cm Ribbon Cable PID: 3560
-DIY HDMI Cable Parts - Straight Mini HDMI Plug Adapter PID: 3552
I've put the ribbon into the plug adapters with exposed side facing out.

Parts look good. Inspect the cable, especially the ends. Does anything look amiss?
From what little I can discerns from the product photos, the exposed side facing out seems correct. You can look into the end of the connector to confirm which side the contacts are on.

Have you tested it with only one port plugged in? And can you post pictures of the cable ends? Thanks.

Re: HDMI Ribbon Getting Hot - Screen and pi zero won't turn on
Interesting. It may be an artifact of the camera angles or lighting, but it looks like on both adapters, there are solder bridges from the shield through-holes to SMD pins on the HDMI connector.
EDIT: Oddly enough, the product page shows a similar solder bridge on the straight adapter, and the HDMI mini pinout has a shield on that pin, so that particular one might be harmless, despite appearances. Could you post a photo of the other side of the straight adapter?

AFAICT, nothing obviously wrong with the parts. As mentioned, the noted solder bridge is per product photos.
Are you fully engaging the retainer clips when using the cable? That is, making sure these black pasting clips are pushed fully in once the ribbon cable is inserted. On the off chance it has something to do with the display, can you provide more info on the "7 inch screen (eviciv)"?

Re: HDMI Ribbon Getting Hot - Screen and pi zero won't turn on
Yes, I've ensured the black retaining clips are fully pushed in. I've checked it multiple times. I am using an EVICIV 7 inch screen. The ribbon cable goes into the FPC ribbon port on the back of the screen. Not this works with a different HDMI ribbon but not with the ones bought from Adafruit.
Hooking everything up, the screen and pi won't even power on when using the HDMI adaptor and ribbon purchased from Adafruit. As soon as I unplug the HDMI adaptor, the screen and pi power up.

Can you link to a product page for the EVICIV 7 inch screen?

Re: HDMI Ribbon Getting Hot - Screen and pi zero won't turn on
Looks fairly straight forward:
What is the previous setup that worked? Was that using the same HDMI ribbon cable?I've tried my previous setup and that still seems to work.
