Adafruit 5323 ESP32-s3 with USB-HOST?

Post by josehdx86 »

Dear team

I am dizzy with so much information i have read about the USB-OTG functionallity of the ESP32-s3. Being more specific, i want to know if the Adafruit 5323 (or any other s3 related board) have or will have such function.

According to espressif (page 93, https://docs.espressif.com/_/downloads/ ... atest/pdf/) the chip support it, but i gueess that does not mean all board support it.

There was a guy reporting some issues on espressif forumt (https://www.esp32.com/viewtopic.php?t=27826) maybe because such "USB host" library is still in beta, (https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp ... _host.html) but he mentioned a couple of different boards, the "ESP32-S3-DevKitC" and the "ESP32-S3-USB-OTG" both having a single usb port and posted a workaround.

My questions are, does the single usb C port on the Adafruit products work in a USB HOST mode? is this port able to power small 5v devices?

I want to make a personal project where the esp32-s3 will be powered by a battery, and with the same battery, it shuld be able to power via USB C port to a small MIDI controller. Then, when the board is used as USB host, it should be able toconvert the MIDI mesajes from the floor MIDI controller and send it via bluetooth low energy, (BLE-MIDI device) everything with a single board and battery. (maybe powering external devices via usb port is not possible due to 3.3v to 5v missing?)

I hope you understand my case, but as i said, it has not been very clear if the boards that are promoted as OTG, has the full functionallity, or if a dual port board is required.

Thank you!
