Magtag gets very hot immediately upon USB-C connection

Post by vader777 »

Magtag gets extremely hot in one corner of the board. Seems to be a short in the red area of the picture

. Ordered the board in March 31, 2022 and only recently had the chance to start testing it.

That area is the Battery charger. Is a battery connected when you notice it getting warm? Is the CHG LED lit? What makes you suspect a short?

No battery is connected to it. Just USBC. The extreme heat when you touch it and the foul smell coming from it when you plug the USBC makes me suspect that an inherently low powered device is using too much current.

To be clear, the corner metal threaded rivet burns to the touch.

OK, that's a problem. Please email [email protected] with a link to this thread, your order number, and request the replacement of one MagTag.
