Hallowing M4 refusing to turn on and smells burnt.

Post by MonsterMaker »

Hello y'all.

So we plugged it into the computer, eye showed up, all good. Attempted to upload updated firmware, but while while attempting the USB went to unrecognized. The device kept rebooting itself and then it started smelling like melted electronics and then screen went black. We were following the adafruit hallowing M4 tutorial and it just doesn't make any sense that changing a file in a fresh out of the box device would make it act and smell like that.

Could something have been accidentally shorted? What was the board sitting on?

OK, could be a glitch in fab or packing. Burnt/melted smells are never a good thing and often mean a short somewhere.

Please email [email protected] with a link to this thread, your order number, and request the replacement of one Hallowing M4.
